Overview: In this course, using entirely online study and tests, medical professionals and other first responders who have previously attained ACLS certification will receive refresher instruction to enhance and update their skills. The course reinforces a person's ability to recognize when an adult is experiencing a life-threatening cardiac event. Participants will be refreshed on how to provide interventions for advanced cardiac life support. In addition, they are provided with up-to-date information and treatments utilizing guidelines published by the American Heart Association. No in-person testing is required for recertification.  Students may receive continuing education credits from CECBEMS, AAFP and AAPA.

Course details: Students will refresh their CPR skills as a basic building block for care of cardiac patients. Course materials cover recognition of symptoms for ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes, as well as ways to treat them. In addition to on-the-scene cardiac arrest care and treatment, the course covers emergency care for other life-threatening cardiopulmonary conditions. Students will review ACLS algorithms and how to use them. Finally, to round out emergency skills, students learn the subtleties of coordinating a team of rescuers, including how to communicate effectively to assure excellent care of the patient. The course certifies that students have the knowledge and ability to address cardiac-related emergency situations and save lives.
